Horrible Experience in Glanton Manor Ooty

We had a family vacation in Ooty and stayed as Glanton Manor. We had a nightmare in this hotel. The hotel arranged a cab service for us for Ooty sightseeing. The driver drove rashly and was a local goon / don. He was continuously dropping us far away from the main gate of the tourist places. When we complained, he threatened us with dire consequences. He stopped the car in the middle of the road and tried to get support from local people. His behavior was so bad that my elderly parents got scared and could not sleep the whole night. We are now filing a FIR against the hotel and this goon. This guy should be taught appropriate lessons. Avoid this hotel as much as you can. I am posting photos of the driver and his car for reference.

We reached Ooty on 12th October evening around 4:30Pm. We didn't have any advance booking for any hotels hence we stopped in front a premium hotel saw first on the Coonoor Road. The name of the Hotel was Glanton Manor (exact location is at Charing Cross, Coonoor Road, Ooty - 643001). The tariff rate of the rooms starts from Rs.2500 to 5000 per day depends on rooms. Since we needed 6 rooms (we were total 6 families) for 2 nights we have negotiated the rate down to Rs.1600/per room per night which they finally agreed. The rooms were very good (premium level) with 24 hours running hot water facility. The weather was very cold (11deg) so hot water is a must for bathing. They also provide an electric kettle in each room which comes handy when we need to drink some hot water or make tea on our own. As said, the rooms and the hotel were very good with ample parking space behind the hotel, but their restaurant is bit expensive for those who look for cheaper/standard rate. We had food from outside hotels, which available within walking distance. The Hotel staff and front office all are very cooperative. They did provide some arrangements for our Driver which very much appreciated.

Very slow and inefficient service. Staff is rude and not helpful. They refuse to oblige with the guests regarding their requirements. We have to tell them 10 times the same thing before expecting any action from them

OK I am on a memory trip here. I visited away back in 2005 Diwali. Thats like 14 years. That time the shopping complex I see now in pics online wasn't there. Maybe they sued up the space leading to entrance commercially. I do remembers it was close to Charing Cross and close enough to Botanical gardens by foot. A comfortable double bed room with a small balcony, a table 2 chairs is my memory. I went on a package tour so cannot certify if cost then was good or excessive since we had in package tea breakfast. Lunch Dinner is done travelling sightseeing mostly. All I can say is I loved the stay and was impressed by management then. I had a horrible experience travelling from Kodaikanal to Ooty through night in bus seat given in package. I had been given a driver's seat in a minibus as tour operator lied about a proper bus. We had to change buses after getting down from Kodai and both buses were minis and I was forced on drivers seat with family. I had a fight with driver and tour operator Kings through the night. I reached Ooty upset and was complaining at check in to manager. Another gentleman was sitting in his short open cabin listening patiently. He was owner. He phoned operator and threatened to end his business arrangement warning strictly he wont have his customers coming in harassed. It was not a drama for show as operator was petrified offering me extra day at hotel free but I had flight bookings needed to go Bangalore for work and return flight so refused the offer. The owner told us many stories of Ooty, Mithun's hotels and history of Ooty's landowner rich. The management was good then. Their way of reacting to any discomfort made me forget my distress of bus travel a night back. I hope the management is still same, caring, professional and efficient.
